• Notes. Hugh1 Hassan (#26) was born in IRELAND 1736. Hugh died July 13, 1832 in Liberty Twp., Trumbull, Ohio, at 96 years of age.

He married Rosannah ?. (Rosannah ? is #27.) Rosannah was born 1750. Rosannah died January 11, 1844 in Liberty Twp., Trumbull, Ohio, at 93 years of age. Rosannah became the mother of Jane Hassan before 1788. Rosannah became the mother of Mary Hassan before 1788. Rosannah became the mother of Susannah Hassan before 1788. Rosannah became the mother of Elizabeth Hassan before 1788. Rosannah became the mother of Margaret Hassan before 1788. At 37 years of age Rosannah became the mother of John Hassan in Pennsylvania, April 5, 1788. Rosannah became the mother of Robert Hassan about 1789.

Hugh became the father of Jane Hassan before 1788. Hugh became the father of Mary Hassan before 1788. Hugh became the father of Susannah Hassan before 1788. Hugh became the father of Elizabeth Hassan before 1788. Hugh became the father of Margaret Hassan before 1788. At 51 years of age Hugh became the father of John Hassan in Pennsylvania, April 5, 1788. Hugh became the father of Robert Hassan about 1789.

According to family tradition, Hugh Hassan was born in 1736 in the Belfast Area of present day Northern Ireland. Sometime before 1779 he refused to bow to his Irish Lord ancestor and pulled him off his horse and beat him. He then fled with the help of friends and became a stowaway to America. His name will not be found on any ship lists. Some reports have Hugh being born in Pennsylvania. This is not believed to be correct.

Hugh settled in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. A document dated May 18, 1799 states that his family lived in Derry Township "upwards of twenty years."

Sometime during the period 1781-1783 Hugh Hassan was a Private in Captain William Wilson's Eighth Battalion Militia. His service is recognized by the Sons of the American Revolution and I was inducted into the S.A.R. as a result of being his descendant.
